Three quite different people buy swim spas, and they should not buy the same one. Work out which you are before you shop, and the choice narrows fast.

If you are a swimmer

You want a propeller driven current above everything else. Smooth, wide, high volume flow that you can settle into for twenty or thirty minutes without fighting chop.

Prioritise current quality and adjustability, depth enough that your stroke does not catch, and a shell long enough that you are not constantly correcting position. Do not spend money on dual temperature you will not use, and treat jet count as close to irrelevant.

If it is about joints, rehab or getting older comfortably

You want a therapy pool rather than a trainer, and the priorities invert entirely.

Water temperature that holds in therapy range rather than athletic cool. A floor you can stand on throughout. Room to walk the length and do resistance work upright. Steps and rails placed for getting in and out on a bad day, which is not a detail, it is the whole thing on a bad day.

You want versatility and you should stop optimising for swim quality.

Length for more than one person, a current that works for playing against as well as exercising, seating at one end so somebody can soak while somebody else moves, and honestly a dual temp unit if the budget reaches, because it is the configuration that lets two people want different things at once.

Questions that sort it quickly

Who is realistically getting in on a Tuesday, not at a gathering. Are you training, exercising, rehabbing, or playing. Does anybody need to get in and out with difficulty. Will two people want different water temperatures at the same time. And how much yard are you willing to give up.

Answer those five and the shortlist is usually two units.

Then budget the rest

A poured, reinforced, level pad with cure time in the schedule. A dedicated circuit and a licensed electrician. Delivery and access measured before the truck is booked. And a realistic view of monthly heating, which scales with water volume.
